Ep. 49 | Predestined to Become Like Jesus: Trust, Obey, and Know Your Mission | Romans 8:28-29
Have you ever prayed like you were ordering at a drive-thru, asking God to fix something right now? In this episode of the Glorify & Grow podcast, Pastor Thomas Kulp of Horizon Church in Bosque Farms, New Mexico, continues the predestination series with a simple reminder: God works all things together for good according to His purpose, not ours (Romans 8:28).
Pastor Thomas argues that predestination means so much more than who goes to heaven or hell. We were predestined to become like Jesus Christ, and God has always wanted all people to come to Him (John 3:16). He also shares what he’s learned about the stages of the Christian walk. We start with simple truths, we dig into the complex, and God eventually calls us back to the simple truths: if you love me, you will obey me. Knowing how a jet engine works doesn’t mean you can fly it, and always learning is not the same as coming to know the truth (2 Timothy 3:7).
Then he turns the message on himself, with an honest account of a missed chance to show someone the love of Jesus. The message ends where last week’s football picture left off: God designed each of us for a part to play, and our mission is to play it with love.
In this episode:
– Why God doesn’t take our order at the drive-thru: trust and obey
– Predestined to become like Christ, and why God wants all to be saved
– The Christian walk: simple, then complex, then simple again
– Always learning, never coming to the truth (2 Timothy 3:7)
– A missed opportunity, and how to show the love of Jesus to people who see things differently
Key verse: “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
